It feels absolutely fabulous to win. It never really sunk in that I could win until we got to the last four

Max Silver has won the UK & Ireland Poker Tour Dublin Main Event and pocketed €72,000.

The 20-year old Londoner, who beat off competition from 589 players, also wins entry into the £5,250 EPT London.

Silver, who qualified via an $11+ rebuy tournament on the internet, also shoots to the top of the UKIPT Series 1 leaderboard.

His victory, which comes just weeks after he finished 6th at the UKIPT Edinburgh, was set up by an incredible hand early on when he raised under the gun with 4♠, 4♣. Local hero Peter McGarvey pushed all-in with J♣, J to have the youngster dominated, but a board of kd, 2♠, 3♠, 4♠, A gave Silver an unlikely straight on the river.

It was a sign of the carnage to come as half the final table busted within the first half hour at the Burlington Hotel.

Soon after,  Silver took a massive chip lead when he took most of his main challengers’ chips, pushing with pocket aces and getting called by Ciaran Taggart with A-J.

Taggart then went out in fourth, followed by Irishman Tom Kitt in third, leaving Silver and Ronan Gilligan to fight for the title and the remainder of the monster €295,000 prize pool.

Silver had a 6-1 chip advantage and wasted no time finishing Gilligan off; the last hand saw Gilligan raise with A-5, Silver re-raised all-in with pocket queens and Gilligan called. The queens held up and the UKIPT Dublin champion was crowned.

Silver said, “It feels absolutely fabulous to win. It never really sunk in that I could win until we got to the last four.

"I had already planned to play London but this is just a nice bonus!

"I can’t wait to get back to my home town. I’ll be playing a lot of events there actually hopefully I’ll just be playing one all the way through.”

The Grand Final at EPT London is the last remaining stop of the inaugural season of the UK & Ireland Poker Tour, and will be taking place at the Hilton Metropole on September 29 – October 4.

The £5,250 Main Event is sure to attract the biggest names in poker, and qualifiers are running now on PokerStars.com from £4.40 or 550FPPs.
