The 2010 World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) Main Event is underway in London.
The biggest event at this year's London Poker Festival started yesterday afternoon and today is Day 1B - the second 'starting day' for the monster tournament. The Main Event Champion will be crowned on Tuesday.
Among the players already signed up and playing are previous WSOPE Main Event champions John Juanda and Annette Obrestand, who won the first ever WSOPE Main Event in 2007 aged just 18.
Other big names such as Gus Hansen, who has also made the final in the heads-up event, Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer and Britain's own Neil Channing are also at the Empire Casino in London’s Leicester Square and hoping to emulate Barry Shulman, who pocketed £801,603 for winning this title last year - his third WSOP bracelet.
It's already been a fascinating few days in Leicester Square since the WSOPE circus rolled into town.
Phil “Unabomber” Laak won the first event - the £2,500 No-Limit Hold’em. It was the 38-year-old's first ever WSOP bracelet and the Unabomber, who dates Oscar-nominated actress Jennifer Tilly, was delighted with his win.
Jeffrey Lisandro, who has four World Series bracelets, picked up the 2nd event - £5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha. Lisandro - from Salerno, Italy, won £159,000 from the overall prize pool of £600,000, sending him up to joint 12th place on the all-time WSOP wins list.
And Londoner Scott Shelley from London walked away with the £1,000 No-Limit Hold’em bracelet and £134,000 after winning his seat to the event in a £100 game in his workplace! Naughty boy.
