EPT regular Michael Tureniec now boasts more than $2.5 million in live tournament winnings

THE EPT Copenhagen has been won by Swedish pro Michael Tureniec.

The 25-year-old landed the €496,271 first prize after seeing off fellow countryman Per Linde in heads-up.

Tureniec, who now boasts more than $2.5 million in live tournament winnings said: "I’m feeling very happy. It’s been a good day.

"I’m glad I managed to win against such tough opponents. I’m very proud.

"It’s such a tough field here with a lot of Scandinavian players. My plan now is to first get a driver’s license, then get a nice car.”

Tureniec, who was runner-up at the EPT5 London pocketing £525,314, bested a field packed with Scandinavian pros.

There were 38 countries represented but more than half the 449 players came from Denmark (109), Sweden and Norway.

Some 64 players made the money including Pokerjolt columnist JP Kelly, who finished 41st for €8,718.

Peter Eastgate, the 2008 WSOP Main Event champion who announced his return to competitive poker earlier this month, competed but failed to cash.

EPT spokeswoman Kirsty Thompson said: "Yet again EPT Copenhagen has proved a massive success and, as always, a huge number of Scandinavian players took part.

"This made for a very exciting five days leading up to a world-class final table."

Perhaps the happiest man in Copenhagen was American online qualifier Kevin Iacofano, who came fourth earning more than €130,000 after winning his seat in a €215 satellite on PokerStars.

The next stop on the European Poker Tour is the €3,500 buy-in EPT Snowfest event in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in Austria from March 20-25, 2011. Satellites are running now on PokerStars as well as for EPT Berlin which runs from April 5-10, 2011. Satellites start tomorrow for the EPT Grand Final which is taking place in Madrid from May 7-12.
