Huckleberry Seed is one the giants of the poker world – both figuratively and literally (he is 6ft 7inches!) – who has won over $5.8 Million in live tournament winnings. He is sponsored by Full Tilt Poker.
Blessed with a razor sharp poker mind and a totally laid-back personality, Huck is one of the most popular and admired players around. A frequent guest on top poker TV shows, Huck Seed’s play is always worth watching.
Of course, Seed’s biggest claim to fame is that he won the 1996 World Series of Poker Main Event and the $1,000,000 first prize. (He made the final table again in 1999 but ‘only’ made it to sixth place. And in 2007, from a huge WSOP Main Event field of 6,358, Huck finished 73rd.)
Seed had already won his first WSOP bracelet way back in 1994 when he took down a $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha event for a $167,000 payday.
In the year 2000, he won a third bracelet in a WSOP $1,500 Razz event for $77,400. Razz proved to be good for him in 2003 too, when he won his fourth WSOP bracelet to date in a $5,000 Razz event that earned him $71,500.
In 2010, the WSOP announced the return of their non-bracelet “Tournament of Champions” event. This Million-Dollar freeroll saw 27 former WSOP champions (most of them voted in by the public) battle it out in star-studded field. Huck Seed was one of those voted in, and he won the event and $500,000 after defeating Howard Lederer heads-up.
Huck Seed is a heads-up master and has enjoyed tremendous success in the NBC National Heads-up Championship including winning the 2009 event for $500,000 after a 2-0 final heads-up victory over Vanessa Rousso.
Huck often takes part (although not always successfully) in ridiculous “prop” bets like going for a year without shaving, or standing up in the ocean for 18 hours, or learning to do a standing back flip within 2 months (he did this last one – not bad for such a tall man)!
Huck went off the rails big time in the early 2000’s losing himself to the three Ds of drink, drugs and depression at a time when others were making fortunes and getting famous from the poker boom.
Now clean and sober he is one of the most self-aware and wise players, known for the generally quiet and gentle demeanour that hides his fierce ability to read opponents and manipulate them into making costly mistakes at the poker table.
