A student who who turned two $40 online poker deposits into a nearly a million dollars has been rewarded with a professional contract.
Russian Maxim Lykov, one of poker's brightest new talents, has signed with Pokerstars in a megabucks deal.
The 22-year-old, who only started playing poker five years ago while studying engineering in Moscow, burst on the live scene last year when he won the Red Sea Poker Cup for $69,797.
A few months later, he finished third in the WSOP $5,000 No Limit Hold'em Shootout in Las Vegas, pocketing $145,062.
Lykov then went on to win the inaugural European Poker Tour event in Kiev for $468,504 last year and now says he wants to win more EPT titles and his first World Series of Poker bracelet.
He told Pokerjolt: "I am determined to prove myself as the best poker player Russia has ever produced."
