If you're already struggling to find fish in poker tournaments you're going to HATE next year's PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
A new event has been added to the 2011 PCA schedule...fishing!
The Fish & Chips Showdown is a two-day event, which takes place January 6-7, and combines sport fishing and poker in a hybrid ‘Man vs Fish’ contest.
Depending on how players fare in the fishing on Day 1, they will be allotted chips for the poker tournament on Day 2.
There are some real monster lurking in the deeps around the Bahamas, including bonefish, barracuda, sharks, tarpon, permit, jacks, grouper, snapper and needlefish. It is rumoured the terrifying Devilfish may also be in the area at the time.
Former World Champion Chris Moneymaker has already entered the unusual event.
He said: “I jumped at the chance.
"Most poker tournaments take place indoors, which is fine, but I can’t imagine a better way to enjoy paradise than to go fishing on the Caribbean Sea and follow that with poker action at the tables.”
Participants can also look forward to a private drinks reception after the event has concluded on January 7.
Winners of the fishing and poker parts of the event will both be crowned, along with an overall champion. Players can qualify online for a $3,425 package, which includes three night stay at the Royal Towers hotel at the Atlantis Luxury Resort & Casino on Paradise Island, online at PokerStars.com – satellites are already running in the PCA/Events section of the PokerStars client.
Direct buy-ins are also available for $2,300, but you don't get the hotel thrown in. The buy-in will be divided into three different prize pools: the fishing derby ($400 per player), the poker derby ($900 per player) and the overall champion ($1,000 per player).
Players will set out fishing within a 50-mile radius of the Paradise Island Marina, with all boats sailing out and returning for weigh-in at the same time. The challenge then resumes at the poker tables with players battling for the poker share of the Fish & Chips Showdown.
The overall champion will be determined by a ratio of one-third fishing, two-thirds poker.
